Richard takes pride in his family’s nursery. inquiries.”
Johnston’s Evergreen Nursery, Inc. was started in 1953 in Erie County, by Richard’s grandparents, Richard and Jean Johnston. The family’s roots in the nursery industry started in Clearfield County where relatives still work a tree farm today. The Johnston’s family love of plants is being carried on in Erie as the 2nd and 3rd generations continue working hard to provide quality plants for the area. From its original 30 areas, the Johnston’s family along with their dedicated employees now farm 450 acres!
From the beginning, the Johnston family decided to grow and supply their customers with a wide variety of plants for landscaping their home and businesses. They specialize in hardy quality plants that are accustom to the Erie weather with excellent livability and impressive size. The Johnston’s are constantly adding new plants and growing techniques. Their quality standards are high and are supported by their innovative container root pruning and plant health care strategies that employ IPM and balanced fertility. Richard observes, “What we grow and how we grow it has made big strides in the last 10 years.”
“Dedicated customers and employees along with hard work, creativity, risk taking, determination, morals, faith, and even luck have built and continue to build our nursery. Our roots are deep. Our goal at Johnston’s Evergreen Nursery, Inc. is to carry on being committed to the ideals with which we grew up,” exclaims Richard. He is looking forward to sharing his experiences with fellow gardeners at the Home Expo.
